We were privileged to attend the “Wayfinding Community–Campus Vā” exhibit reception and experience a profound gathering of community, culture, and scholarship.
We’re proud to support our community partners Unifying APIDA Communities Together and invite you to visit their spring exhibit. Available for viewing through July 31 in the CSUSM Library’s third-floor exhibit space.
This mixed-media collection envisions how an oceanic perspective guides cultural education, maintains community relationships, and promotes social justice. Grounded in the ancient roots of Austronesian language families, Vā refers to the “connecting space” that unites islands and ocean, an interconnected worldview where we are always linked through tautua (service) and collective care.

This event was a true reflection of what can happen when those committed to higher education and community-building come together with intention. The exhibit itself, along with the beautiful performances by CSUSM PISA and Mira Costa Mana Club made the night one to remember!
Events like this are the culmination of the hard work, vision, and collaboration of many. We were grateful to witness and play a small part in it all.
Mahalo to you all for your commitment & aloha

‘Umeke is grateful to be among the community partners included in the exhibit, particularly through the documentation of our ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi Language Program. It is moving to see students, culture, and community reflected in this space.
